Magma Gauntlet

Obby course

Seven stages over a lava sea. Touch the glow and you are back at the checkpoint.

What it is

Magma Gauntlet is seven stages over a lava sea. It is by far the largest thing the game builds: 12,240 parts, of which 11,651 are hazard blocks — the lava is not a texture or a plane, it is eleven and a half thousand individual blocks that end your run on contact.

The route

One hundred and twenty solver steps across a 186-cell span, which makes it the longest course on the ladder by some distance. Only 33 of those steps are jumps, so there is real running in it — the danger is not the gaps, which top out at 4 cells, but that everything either side of the path kills. Six checkpoints across seven stages.

How to approach it

Touching lava returns you to the last checkpoint with the clock still running, so the fast line and the safe line are the same line here. There is no version of this course where taking a risk pays.

What it teaches: Route discipline when failure is instant rather than positional.

How it compares to the rest of the ladder

Ranked against all 23 courses on the same measurements, this one holds 3 places:

  • the third-most jumps of any course — 33 jumps
  • the longest route on the ladder — 120 solver steps
  • the largest footprint on the ladder — 11532 cells of ground

Outright places only — ties are not claimed.

Controls

What you need to start

MoveWASDArrow keys work too.
JumpSpace
Sprint / lock onShiftA latch, not a hold: tap once to arm sprint and a camera lock-on together, tap again to release both. Neither carries over into the next world you open.

Sprint is a latch rather than a hold — tap it once and it stays on. Every control, keyboard and touch, including respawn, restart and the camera keys, and all of them rebindable.
