Needlepoint

Hard course

Every other landing is a 2x1 pad seen end-on. Straight, and unforgiving.

What it is

Needlepoint is 36 jumps in 41 steps — a near-total absence of walking — where every other landing is a 2x1 pad seen end-on. The course is straight; the pads are the difficulty, and they are presented at their narrowest.

The route

A 67 by 94 footprint with the route running through it, alternating between ordinary landings and pads that give you one cell of depth in the direction you are travelling. Widest gap 4.1 cells, a 2-cell drop, 17 cells of climb, four checkpoints.

How to approach it

Short-hop the narrow pads. A full running jump onto a 2x1 seen end-on overshoots more often than it falls short, and overshooting a pad with one cell of depth is a fall.

What it teaches: Modulating jump distance rather than always jumping maximum.

Controls

What you need to start

MoveWASDArrow keys work too.
JumpSpace
Sprint / lock onShiftA latch, not a hold: tap once to arm sprint and a camera lock-on together, tap again to release both. Neither carries over into the next world you open.

Sprint is a latch rather than a hold — tap it once and it stays on. Every control, keyboard and touch, including respawn, restart and the camera keys, and all of them rebindable.

Other Hard courses

  • Vault of Wires — One-cell walkways and a zigzag that turns on every pad.
  • Zip Line — Vault's zigzag as the whole course. Sixteen turns, not one cell of slack.
  • The Gauntlet — A plunge of six 2x2 pads, banked by one checkpoint at the top of it.
  • Spindle — A tower climbed on a widening spiral, with nothing to bank on the way up.
